Word-building takes over: your child learns the prefixes "pre-", "de-", "co-", "uni-", "bi-", "tri-", "mis-" and "dis-", and the suffixes "-ion", "-ure", "-er", "-ist", "-ish", "-y", "-ness", "-less", "-able", "-ible" and "-ful" — turning "instruct" into "instruction". Rarer spellings come in too, like "eigh" and "ough". This matches what's covered in Grade 2 classrooms across Ontario.
