Opens Fredle.

Your child deepens phonics first — blends, sounds affected by a nearby "r", long vowel sounds written different ways — before the first ending, "-s" for plurals, appears at the midpoint. By year's end, more endings ("-ly", "-y", "-ful") and the first word-starts ("mis-", "dis-") arrive, alongside longer, multi-part words. This matches what's covered in Grade 1 classrooms across the US.

Checked against the Common Core reading standards for Grade 1 (RF.1.3).

Games that match Grade 1

Opening a game from this page sets the school year to Grade 1, and every game then keeps the words at that level — so a Grade 1 child gets Grade 1 words, not a guess. The school year is a tap away inside the game, so a child moving up a year, or a younger sibling taking a turn, changes it in seconds.

Same ages in the UK: Year 2 (ages 6–7).
