Phonics carries on from Primary 1 — "ar" and "or", "ou" and "oy" — and word-building starts: compound words ("farmhouse"), contractions ("couldn't"), "faster" and "fastest", and how a prefix or suffix makes a new word — "enlarge", "helpful", "musical". Same-sounding words spelt differently, like "their" and "there", are taught too. This matches what's covered in Primary 2 classrooms across Singapore.

Checked against the English Language Syllabus, published by Singapore's Ministry of Education. How the words are chosen.

Games that match Primary 2

Opening a game from this page sets the school year to Primary 2, and every game then keeps the words at that level — so a Primary 2 child gets Primary 2 words, not a guess. The school year is a tap away inside the game, so a child moving up a year, or a younger sibling taking a turn, changes it in seconds.

Same ages in the UK: Year 3 (ages 7–8).
